Understand Your Prescription
The first step in choosing reading glasses is understanding what prescription you need. If you have had an eye exam, take a look at your prescription information. If you don’t have a recent eye exam, we recommend visiting an optician for an accurate assessment.
How do you choose a strength if you haven’t had an eye exam?
If you haven’t had an eye exam and are unsure which strength you need, you can always order different strengths to try at home and find an approximate strength that works for you. These can help you test different options to see which feels most comfortable. Here are some general guidelines:
+1.0: For people between 40 and 45 years old who are starting to notice it’s harder to read small text or use a phone up close.
+1.0 to +2.0: For people between 45 and 55 years old who have difficulty reading books or newspapers up close.
+2.0 to +3.0: For people between 55 and 65 years old who often experience blurry images or text even at close range.
+3.0 and above: For people over 65 who may need stronger strengths to see up close without problems.
Please note that these are general guidelines. Since everyone has unique vision needs, we recommend getting an eye exam for an exact assessment of your prescription. Don’t see your strength here?
